Dorno Bertagnina pumpkins

The name “Bertagnina” derives from the pumpkins’ characteristic proturberances or bumps located on its lower surface: “bartò” or “baratòl”, in dialect, is the name given for the typical hat worn by local farmers. The Dorno Bertagnina pumpkin is one of the “Capello del Prete” (Priest’s hat) varieties from the Po Valley, characterised by a smooth skin and an orange-yellow flesh of a fairly dense consistency. It has a weight of 3-4 kg. Harvest begins in August until October. The Producers Association for the Dorno Bertagnina pumpkin was founded 2014, and samples are stored in the seed bank at the plant germplasm in the University of Pavia.

It is versatile In cooking, thanks to its easy cultivation and conservation, making it the perfect ingredient for various dishes: soups, ravioli, oven-cooked recipes as well as desserts and jams, mostarda and beer.
